Welcome to interiordezine.com’s Interior Design Community
Thanks for calling by, we hope you can share your interior design and decorating skills with others here and learn new things, ask questions, get ideas and talk to like minded design enthusiasts. It is easy, go and register yourself, add a few details, confirm who you are and get started. There is so much to learn about interior decorating, that unless you work with someone experienced, it can be a slow and laborous task to improve your skills.
That is why we want to make your life easier, we already provide free ecourses on interior decorating, color and curtain design, so here is the back up to those courses.
Ask questions here, as we are a brand new community, it could take a few months for things to start cooking, but we need to start somewhere, so help us help others learn from your questions and the answers that others provide.
If you have a passion for an area of design, why not start up a group and have a chat about it. Encourage your friends and workmates to join.
Most of all we hope that you will get on board and help us share our passion for interiors and have fun learning at our interior design community.

i have a question
actually after 1 year i want to re-decorate my room, and I’m planning 4 this now cuz i have many ideas … now i hve many different colors of covers to bed i mean each cover has many shapes and colors on it,and after 2 months i change the cover of the bed , my question is how i can balance or merge between the colors of the bed and the curtain, now my idea is to buy Beige curtain and but accessories on it that the color of the accessories has the same colors of the cover , do u see that this idea is okay and beautiful and if u have other suggestions tell me please?
i hope u understand me

Hi Noor
First I should say that I am an Artist /Designer, not a professional Interior Designer. However I saw your post, and felt I could share a few thoughts with you, as we are all part of a community here. While beige is neutral, it could also be a bit bland, depending on the other colors in your room, which you have not mentioned. With colorful bed covers an achromatic theme could be great for the furnishings and paint. But it sounds like you are concentrating on your window dressings. You furniture STYLE and style of house will affect how well your window dressings will fit the theme. For color tests the most accessible thing that I have found is the Dulux site, just put Dulux into Google. (if you don’t have Photoshop on your computer). Don’t be put off by the fact that it was designed for paint color, get to the part where you can try paint colors on a photo of your room, the program leads you through it, then you can try many colors with the computer on your existing curtains in the photo.Have you thought about options to curtains alone? What specificaly makes you want to re decorate after such a short time? Zero in on what you DON’T like to help guide you.
Having accessories around the room the color of the bed cover you are using is definitely a good idea as long as you don’t loose your theme! I am working on window coverings too at present, for a whole house, where two rooms are half glass! Let us all know how it goes, join the color group. Best of luck and good planing. Phoebe
Jacob O\'Leary said on April 3, 2012
That sounds like a wonderful idea as long as the textures dont contrast and the bedding colors arent too bold in comparison, I think it would turn out wonderful! Now this is just from an imagination stand point, there are other facters involved like flooring and other furniture that could make a difference but otherwise, great idea
BICHITRANANDA PAHI said on April 19, 2012
hi
your idea is somehow good but overall not. so when u go for choose any curtains then choose on small printer cotton , and the selection is very simple just look that patteren with half closed eyes , the small work then clearly visible to you , if u like those pattern then select , no matter which colour is that.

Hello House! Just to let you know i had a wonderful time this morning studying HOW TO CHOOSE A COLOR SCHEME! From the ceiling to the wall and the floor! You can actually begin to spot out you color schemes based on these three areas, you can begin to define your window covering color, the furniture, the hangings on the wall, the type and color of the floor covering, but not without a good client brief at the back of your mind, in order to please your client. Really very interesting, self explicit examples shown and so down to heart!
Bolajoko M. Carew Shitta-Bey said on March 5, 2012
Hi Bichitrananda! I am an e-color student and i think you are on the right track, i believe what you are tryring to say here is that you distinguished out the FEATURE WALL by painting it desert sunset color, which makes it the room’s focussing area and the rest of the wall painted in silent off-white, with these descriptions and in my imagination so far, i think you are on track, or what do you think about this our Mentor?

Hello,
May I ask what type of position did you apply for within that Interior Decorating company, especially since you stated that you had no interest in design at that time? What did the newly graduated decorators positions entail? You now have the one up on decorators trying to get their foot in without the expense of the industry’s mandatory accreditations. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi All – Phoebe from Australia here.
Fantastic idea to have a site where we can discuss the uses we are making of the info from the courses and the info pages.Personally I have found it a great bridge between my messy life as a visual artist (University Trained)and putting my knowledge into overhauling the ’97 built home that I bought six months ago. My immediate goal is to turn a small brick house on half an acre of nature, into a piece of liveable art, that will eventually be surrounded by a small sculpture park. A big goal on limited funds but fun. I have been working on solving design problems all my life but a home is so different, it has to be practical as well. And explaining ideas to tradespeople……still have to get the painter in, as in my 50′s painting a whole house as well as moving the furniture is a bit much for me. I will take on the walls when he has done the basics.
Are there many other artists out there?
Lee, thanks for sharing your knowledge! Wonderful mix of technologies to do this site and the whole set up.

Hi From Canada!
I am also a Fine Arts University grad, earned in my late thirties and now at 50 I want to apply my esthetic to decorating for others I have a hard time knowing where to begin. It seems I have countless energy for my own home, but to begin to do it “out there” is a bit daunting since I am not an ingenue. However, I have done many freebies for friends and one job distrressing four antique bureaus, lots of fun. How do I begin, do you have any ideas?

BICHITRANANDA PAHI said on February 20, 2012
hi
Remeber one thing , i.e. everyone have to learn untill his / her death. noone can say he learnt everything. and about you, if u want to begin then first imagine a lot and draw rough of your imagine into paper , then try to shortlist among them, and then think why and on which ground you cancelled the remaining. in this process you can gather some basic ideas.

And also looking forward that thru this e-course I could put up my own shop to be able to earn and support my family..!!
THANKS FOR ACCOMODATING THIS REQUEST!!
admin said on February 13, 2012
Hi, Leonila, we have the ecourse in curtain design, but not curtain making. As a designer I am not a specialist in making curtains, so I am not able to write a course on this. I will have a look around the internet and see what I can find for you. I think you have a great idea to support your family.
Phoebe said on February 19, 2012
Hi Leonila
Do not know if they will have all the information, but I have found a lot of curtain patterns that come with instructions on the McCalls pattern site, just put McCalls into Google or which ever search engine that you use and you will find them. Buterick also have curtain patterns. As well as trying that you could just do a search for DIY Curtains you should find some links that will get you the information on making curtains. Hope this is of help, feel free to contact me for any more ideas. I am primarily a visual artist by training but have been a designer/maker all my life. Best of luck – Phoebe
Phoebe said on February 20, 2012
Sorry, it seems McCalls has cut back on their curtain patterns, probably why I have been getting emails about them, the last few are in the clearance section, found this one – M5343 on window treatments. They do have lots of books on curtain making on their site! It seems that with Lee’s great design lessons that you will only have to get the info on the actual making. You can keep curtains reasonably simple if they have the right design elements and individuality . Do try a search on DIY Curtains – Phoebe

I am happy to be part of your community. I am a simply home owner owning a home given by the Housing Development corporation in Trinidad. These homes are affordable homes sold to the middle and lower income citizens at low interest. It is just a shell without floor covering cupboards etc so I have to do the interior from scratch. i just tiles the livingroom this past Christmas and have learnt so much from the two cources you offered. just happy to be part of this bunch. My progress in getting my home to the place i desire may be slow simply because I am completing it from my monthly salaty and things are expensive here but it will be completed to my taste eventually and with your advice. God bless and keep up the good work. Love Althea

Hi Lee! Thank you so much for your generousity in assisting we the less privileged to formal design education in to your free design ecourses! I am specialy indebted to you for the curtains and drapery designs ecourse, it was quite an exciting experience to me, though yet to collect the certificate due to some financial constraints but will surely have it. Locating your website was like a decade prayer answerd by God, because i had heard of the site like 4 years ago while i was training under a local designer. The information was given her but she never showed interest, if tomorrow i fully come out into the design world i will surely have a hedge over her! Because i will hang my certificate in my office! Lee please i have been trying to register for the ecolor course after you have motivated me in your first email of the year to me, each time i want to access it proves abortive i am looking forward to adding another knowledge! I wish i could continue but thank you for this access to rub minds with you, i hope to one day visit you in Switzerland! My warm regards to Chris and Emily!

Hi, thanks fro the wonderful comment. I have added you manually to the color ecourse, you should receive an email with further instructions to follow. I am sorry you could not sign up, I will look into it. Have fun, the color course is great, if I do say so myself!
Bolajoko M. Carew Shitta-Bey said on February 7, 2012
Thank you so very much for granting me easier access and registration for the COLOR ecourse, i must confess the Part two was indeed full of fun and much understanding, the way color design is taken out of nature to texture often time i’d wondered the way nature combines color is unmatchable to that of human and concluded that God is the best architect/designer in the whole wild world. Take again for example the animals and the birds in the air, in them you appreciate the work of nature in their color combination designs. I need to go and read my part 3 now so i can have more to say, ‘will get back on board as i progress! Thank you my mentor Lee and thank you fellow designers in the making! We will get there!
