Kitchen Design Gone Overboard – Improvements Offered to Keep it Simple

This kitchen design looks more like a work of art than a functional working kitchen. From top to bottom every plane has ornate decoration.

I don’t personally like it but I do appreciate the kitchen design work that has gone into it.

So the things I love are the detail in the drawer front under the hob. The remainder I find too busy.

	There are so many different finishes and textures, your eye cannot rest. I like each detail on it’s own but combined they look past eclectic – just contrived.How would I make this kitchen design look better to my eye? If you are going to criticize, then I only think it is fair that you provide some practical solutions for improvement. I would have a single color as the tiled panel behind the hob and I would remove the corbels – where do they fit in? To tie in the contrasting cabinetry of the extract unit, I would remove the decorative molding and the tile inlays and perhaps make the lower portion from the same timber veneer as the other overhead cabinets. That would simplify the look whilst still keeping the decorative work on the timber cabinetry below the counter tops.

I like the fact that the designer has made the counter top deeper where the cook top or hob is placed this allows more layoff space and area for pan handles etc. It also means the wall behind doesn’t get too hot (bearing in mind that you should always have a flame retardant product on the wall behind a cook top or hob.)

Overall this kitchen design is not to my taste but has some lovely features on their own to draw ideas and inspiration from for your kitchen design project.
